Caring to make a difference for people with autism

Our 7 year old Autistic Author

I'm writing to you from New Zealand. As parents of an autistic child, we feel that other parents of Autistic children everywhere might be inspired by our story.

Essentially we have a son, Andrew who was diagnosed with Autism at 3 1/2 years. Andrew started school at 5 and was assessed as being 18 months behind his peers. Over the past 2 and a half years he has worked exceptionally hard with his support teacher at school and is now being assessed as being 18 months ahead in his reading and writing.

He is now 7 years old and has just published a book of short stories which are funny, whacky and truly inspirational. We're promoting the book to raise awareness of what can be achieved with the right support and also to raise funds for Autism in New Zealand so that we can train teacher aides and teachers how to support autistic and other special needs children.

Whilst we do exist at the far end of the World, Autism transcends geographical borders and we should all celebrate success in the face of adversity when we can to give others hope. It would be truly wonderful if you could share our story through your site/facebook/networks/newsletters and enable people to see what Andrew has achieved at the age of 7 yrs.

We have put a simple webpage together to introduce people to Andrew and his book:

Thank you for your time and consideration, any awareness we can create would be gratefully appreciated and would ultimately help us to support other families down here in New Zealand.

Kind regards, Martin Percival.
