CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S SERVICES
Our services for children and young people are developing rapidly and we are able to provide the following services across Sussex. We can provide any of the services below via Direct Payments or through funding provided by Social Services across East and West Sussex. Please also see the rest of the Children and Young People’s pages on funding we currently have for other services and activities.
Outreach Service
Through the outreach service we are currently able to provide support to access leisure activities, buddying, individualised packages, and short term intensive support and access to opportunities to access activities in one of our Resource Centres to include fun and games activities, sensory activities, music, computer/ game console and the opportunities to develop social skills and friendships. Support is can be provided on a 1:1 basis or 2:1 should the child need additional support. It also provides families with the opportunity to a short break/ respite.
Skills Support
As part of our Outreach service focused support can be delivered through individual/ 1:1 support, family support or through a group. The provision we currently and will be able to provide for examples are:
· Transitional skills support
o Daily transitions like home / school, especially the morning routine to get to school on time and in a calm manner
o Long term transitions like going to a new school / college
· College support
o We can provide assistance to enable a young person to access college successfully
· Work Experience
o We can work with a young person to find suitable work experience and provide the support required to attend the place of work
We can also offer training on life skills such as money; sexuality issues; travel training; being street wise; use of the Internet etc.
Behaviour Support
Each referral would be assessed on how best a behavioural support package would need to be tailored and delivered. Support will be around listening to the needs of the child and of the parents and formulating practical strategies in areas such as:
· Toileting
· Sleep management
· Inter family relationships (Siblings, grandparents)
· Eating
· Dressing
· Motivation
· Dealing with social situations
· Communicating needs and challenging behaviour
These strategies will adopt various methods including structured approach and picture exchange systems and will be individualised according to the child’s needs. This in turn will empower the parents and strengthen the child’s confidence and develop the methods in which he/she expresses themselves.
