Individuals are assessed and, providing our service is deemed appropriate, a care plan is devised by all relevant parties.
Assessment considers the degree to which an individual is affected by their autism so that appropriate strategies can be identified and implemented to provide effective support.
Assessment also identifies the level of support required and the skills needed to lead as fulfilling and independent a life as possible.
Once needs are identified, support to develop skills are provided in a manner and at a level and pace which suits the individuals learning style and level of understanding.
Methods include those approved by the National Autistic Society such as TEACCH, Social Stories, visual communication etc.
Individuals with autism are a high-risk group and with this in mind, detailed risk assessments are carried out for every activity an individual participates in. However it should be recognised that risk cannot be eliminated altogether.
Support is given to maintain dignity and respect, build confidence and self esteem, ensuring that the person is empowered to access desired activities and maintain and develop their skills at all times.
