
Summerley Corner Supported LivingSummerley Corner supported living accommodation consist of three flats providing support for people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). The flats are adjacent to Autism Sussex Resource Centre and each flat consists of one ensuite (with WC and shower) bedroom and a living room with a kitchenette.
Summerley Corner is located in Felpham just off the A259 as you leave Bognor Regis. There is a bus stop right outside with a good bus service. Within a five minute walk there is a post office, co-op, Tesco express, pub and a fish and chip shop. In the local village there are a number of pubs and take-aways and further shops including chemist, hair dressers and banks. On the bus route to Bognor Regis, just a 5 minute drive away, there is a local leisure centre with gym and swimming facilities. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away which can be reached walking through the local park and housing estate.
This new service aims to develop independence and confidence, enabling people with ASC to positively participate and engage in the wider community.
The level of support will be agreed with the prospective service user and the responsible funding authority.
Support plans will be developed with the individual, based on an in-depth assessment. These will include:
• Developing structured activities throughout the week
• Gaining skills/working towards employment
• Support with or enrolling into further education
• Developing social interaction and communication skills
• Developing daily living/household management skills (i.e. budgeting, paying bills, domestic tasks)
• Developing skills to safely access the community
As part of the support plan, people living at Summerley Corner will have the opportunity to access Autism Sussex specialist Resource Centre adjacent to the supported living flats. The facilities include a computer suite, an art and sensory room. There is also the opportunity to join an Asperger’s Support group.
Support will be provided by Autism Sussex. Staff under go intensive Autism Specific training, delivering a high quality, person centred service geared towards the specific needs of each individual. Staff training includes a six month induction programme and regular supervisions and staff meetings.
Autism Sussex was established in 1992 providing specialist services for people with ASC. The organization offers a wide range of services including specialist resource centres, residential/supported living, community access support and Asperger’s Support Groups.
Community access will include individual 1-1 or group support, travel training, shopping, accessing local services such as doctors, job centres, etc, with the aim of building confidence, self reliance and a more independent quality of life.
We have also developed effective links with education establishments, employers and local health and community services.
