Environment
Our home is a large four bedroom
house in the local community. Two bedrooms are spacious and the third
is slightly smaller but with the option of an additional small sitting
room or ‘den’ just across the landing. One bedroom is in the attic
conversion and has an en suite shower room.
All rooms are
decorated to reflect the personality and preferences of the service
user. The downstairs communal rooms are light and spacious. The lounge
has TV, Video and DVD for general use. The dining room is in the
conservatory and can easily seat six to eight guests when we are
entertaining.
There is an additional shower room/toilet on the
ground floor, adjacent to the conservatory. The fully fitted kitchen is
shared by all service users and can also serve as an additional or
preferred choice of dinning area.
We have a split level back
garden, the ground level is used for barbeques and outside
entertaining, the higher level has a quiet place for relaxing, with a
beautiful view across the bay to Eastbourne.
We use local
facilities in and around Hastings. Local shops are a five minute walk
away. The main shopping centre, theatre, cinema, library, funfair and
seafront are a five minute drive or short walk along the promenade. The
station and main bus routes are just around the corner.
Staff
At
St Saviours we offer a semi independent lifestyle. Service users are supported according to their
individual needs and they follow a structured timetable incorporating
activity choices, daily household tasks and leisure time. Support for
daily tasks and self care would usually be one-to-one. Service users
are encouraged to amuse themselves and pursue their own hobbies and
interests during leisure time, or just to ‘be themselves’ and relax in
their own home in the communal rooms or their bedrooms, after a busy
day.
All staff follow our ongoing training program which is
designed to ensure all procedures are in line with CQC regulations and
are autism specific.
Our aim at St Saviours is to support service
users to enjoy living in the local community and to follow a varied
high quality lifestyle which reflects their own personality and choices.
There
is one member of staff on duty at all times. Additional staffing time
is designed to support one to one activities and specific needs of the
individual, identified in reviews and ongoing assessment of changing
needs.
There is one ‘sleep in’ member of staff at night.
Service Users
Our
four service users enjoy full use of all these facilities and have
access to two day centres offering a wide range of activities.
One
specialises in small groups or one-to-one activities giving those with
a preference for solitude an active and varied timetable, focusing on
more academic skills.
The other offers varied activities to
service users with more diverse needs and includes swimming, horse
riding, sports, cooking, art and music as well as providing an
excellent lunch service. We use a person-centred approach which is
regularly reviewed to ensure service users are happy in their daytime
activities and able to balance enjoyment with achievement.
Our service users are also offered the opportunity to gain catering work experience at our Café Des Arts project in Hastings.
