Caring to make a difference for people with autism

Summerley Corner Resource Centre

Summerley Corner Resource Centre was officially opened by Dr. Lorna Wing in December 2010.   Summerley Corner is on the outskirts of Bognor Regis and is set up as a resource centre for adults with autism and learning difficulties with an Autistic Spectrum Condition.

It has already acheived Accreditation status with the National Autism Accreditation Programme, a specialist quality mark provided under the umbrella of the National Autistic Society.

Summerley Corner has a highly trained staff team who access numerous highly specialised ASC specific courses from our own Training Department.  Please contact our training department for more information and a Training prospectus.  They provide structured, individualised support for the people who use our service, to carry out a range of activities - some within the Resource Centre itself and with others out in the community.
Autism Sussex provide bespoke services in line with the Governments' National Personalisation Agenda and specific to individual's needs.  Many of the people who access our services are in receipt of an Individual Budget.

We encourage people who use our services to develop essential life skills through many activities and encourage social communication, interaction and community access.  We also promote healthy living and physical exercise.

We are an enthusiastic, dedicated specialist team who gain a great deal of fulfilment working with the people who use our services and aim to create a warm, friendly atmosphere.  Staff receive training in 'Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children' (TEACCH), as well as many other ASC specific courses, which enable them to provide the most appropriate communication system for each individual.  Staff are also trained to use Makaton.

Everyone who uses our service is allocated to a key worker and has an Individual Care Plan (ICP).  this is a working document which constantly evolves.  In the ICP we collect information concerning personal details and preferences, pen pictures, risk assessments and behaviour guidelines.
