Introduction
Sussex House is a resource centre for adults with autism and learning disabilities based in Battle, and has already acheived Accreditation status with the National Autism Accreditation Programme, a specialist quality mark provided under the umbrella of the National Autistic Society.
Sussex House has a highly trained staff team who support service users in activities provided at the resource centre itself and in the community at large. We promote physical exercise, encourage service users to develop life skills through our many activities and prioritize social communication, social interaction and social imagination.
We are an enthusiastic, professional team who gain a lot of fulfillment working with service users and create a warm and friendly atmosphere. All staff are trained in the ‘Treatment and education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children’ (TEACCH), which enables them to provide the most appropriate communication system for each individual. Staff are also trained to use Makaton.
Every service user is allocated a key worker and has an Individual Care Plan. This is a working document which constantly evolves. In the ICP we collect information concerning personal details and preferences, pen pictures, risk assessments and behavior guidelines.
